Stretchy bracelet made with 8mm stones of malachite and moonstone. The name Malachite may come from the Greek word malakee, or malache, signifying the resemblance of Mallow leaves, or from the Greek word malakos, meaning soft. [Fernie, 167][Simmons, 247] Being a carbonate of copper, Malachite is sometimes intergrown with Azurite, forming Malachite-Azurite, or with Chrysocolla, forming Malachite-Chrysocolla. [Simmons, 247] Well known to ancient Egyptians, Malachite mines were in use between the Suez and Sinai as early as 4000 B.C. [Kunz, 97] It was also popular with the ancient Greeks and Romans, for jewelry, ornaments, and in powdered form, for eye shadow. In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the "Evil Eye" and to cure various stomach ailments. Russian czars used Malachite for ornaments and paneling for their castles, and intricate inlay work. [Simmons, 247] Malachite is an effective remedy for female problems, especially regulating the menstrual cycle and cramps, and for easing labor. [Megemont, 119] It has been called the Midwife Stone. It resonates with the female sexual organs, and treats sexual dis-ease, especially when caused by traumatic past experiences. [Hall, 184] Malachite relieves cold sweats, malaria, trembling and Parkinson's disease, and helps with asthma, intestinal problems and rheumatic pain. It is a diuretic stone and can help cure kidney and gallstones. It fights osteoarthritis, most notably in the spine, and strengthens memory, especially for those with short-term memory loss who forget the names of people right after hearing them. [Megemont, 119-120] Known to lower blood pressure, Malachite also treats epilepsy, travel sickness and vertigo. It helps in the healing of fractures, swollen joints, growths, tumors, torn muscles and broken bones. It enhances the immune system and stimulates the liver to release toxins. [Hall, 184-185][Eason, 283] We must again warn you: use only polished Malachite. Do not use any Malachite elixir. Do not place any malachite in your mouth. Moonstone's radiant, translucent appearance is similar to that of the glow of the moon, hence the name Moonstone. Minerologists refer to this semi-precious stone as Adularia, as it was first discovered in the Adula Mountains in Switzerland. The glowing flashes of light that are seen in these multi-color moonstone beads are known as “adularescence”. This gemstone is usually whitish-blue (Rainbow Moonstone), but it can also be colorless, yellow, peach, gray, or even reddish (Multi Moonstone). Moonstone is a semiprecious member of the potassium feldspar family that exhibits a glowing bluish, silvery, or pearly white shimmer. Moonstone helps in attuning to the normal rhythms of the biological forces of one's body and to utilize natural energy cycles. It powerfully affects the female reproductive system, enhancing fertility and promoting ease in pregnancy and childbirth, alleviates menstrual problems and change-of-life, balances the hormonal system and eliminates fluid retention. [Melody, 417][Hall, 191] Moonstone can act as a growth stone for children and teenagers, and has been thought to slow the degeneration of the elderly. It may also alleviate degenerative conditions of the skin, hair, eyes, and the fleshy organs of the body. It is useful in treating insomnia and creating beneficial dreams. [Megemont, 129][Melody, 417] Moonstone may also be used to enhance the assimilation of nutrients, eliminate toxins, and treat disorders of the digestive and elimination systems. [Melody, 418]
